My Favourite Family Days in Coron - A Gentle Guide
A warm, personal guide to Coron for families - when to take the lagoons, the dugong mornings and the dusk hill walk, and the family stays that suit each hour.
I have spent a working life reading seasons and hours in wild places, and Coron reads like a book written for exactly that habit. The lagoons save their clearest water for the early boats, the dugong keeps its own counsel, the hill saves itself for dusk. My old travelling companion keeps our little ledger, as she has since our reserve canteen days, and this guide is simply the two of us agreeing on when each thing is worth its cost - and where a family should pause in between. Nothing here is rushed; everything here is timed.
Before the Ledger Opens
I have spent a working life reading seasons and hours in wild places, and Coron reads like a book written for exactly that habit. The lagoons save their clearest water for the early boats, the dugong keeps its own counsel, the hill saves itself for dusk. My old travelling companion keeps our little ledger, as she has since our reserve canteen days, and this guide is simply the two of us agreeing on when each thing is worth its cost - and where a family should pause in between. Nothing here is rushed; everything here is timed.
Lagoon Mornings, Taken Early
Join the Ultimate Tour - the one families rate 4.9 out of 5 - and take the first boat out. Seven stops in one smooth day: Kayangan Lake behind its karst walls, Barracuda Lake, Twin Lagoon, the Skeleton Wreck for snorkelling, a coral garden, and CYC Beach for sand between the swims.
Kayangan repays the early arrival - its water is famously among the clearest in the country, and the short climb to the viewpoint is worth every step. Lunch is a Filipino buffet at a shaded kubo, vegan and vegetarian friendly, so every small person stays content. The itinerary bows to the weather, and it should - the crews know the sea better than any of us.

Bacau Bay Resort Coron
4 stars8.3 Very Good442 reviewsBacau Bay Resort Coron - the kid's club earns its keep on boat-tired afternoons, and three restaurants end every supper debate before it starts. A short hop from Coron Town Proper, with a pool built for slow evenings, it is my first call when the ledger wants a bed that behaves. Book this family resort before the dry months fill.

Discovery Coron Formerly Club Paradise Palawan
5 stars8.9 Fabulous571 reviewsDiscovery Coron, formerly Club Paradise Palawan - my favourite of the family friendly hotels in Coron, and the one my ledger salutes: a complimentary round-trip airport transfer, a long beach of its own, and the Dugong Dive Centre on site for the mornings we chase gentle giants. Cultural performances on selected days - so worth staying in for!
Town, Taken at Dusk
Coron town keeps its best hours for the evening, and the private town tour schedules it beautifully: Mount Tapyas at golden hour, Maquinit after dark to beat the heat and the crowds. The climb is concrete steps and benches all the way - seven hundred of them, more or less - to a great cross and a wide view over Coron Bay and the islands. Then Maquinit, one of the world's few saltwater hot springs, tucked among mangroves by the sea; warm water after a hill is a small bliss. In between, the tour threads St. Augustine Church, the market and the Town Plaza, with a cashew tasting if you fancy Coron's favourite nut.

Coron Westown Resort
4 stars8.3 Very Good859 reviewsCoron Westown Resort - minutes by car from the Tapyas trailhead, so you can linger on the hill until the sky turns and still be soaked in one of two pools before the children surrender. Gazebos for barbecue nights, karaoke if they insist, and a buffet breakfast that powers the early boats. Compare rooms and rates early for the dry months.

Wrecks at Low Water
Snorkellers get a Coron of their own: the Lusong Gunboat lies so shallow that its stern shows at low tide, which makes the tide table part of the plan. The East Tangat went down in 1944 and rests in clear, shallow water made for masks and fins; Lusong Coral Garden adds the fish, and Pass Island closes the day with white sand. For anyone ready to go deeper, the beginner scuba day takes first-timers gently over a wreck and a reef, picnic lunch included - the kindest possible first line in a diving ledger.

Chindonan Dive And Beach Resort
3 stars7.8 Good48 reviewsChindonan Dive And Beach Resort - a proper island pause on Chindonan itself, every balcony looking at the sea. Snorkelling, canoeing and diving start at the doorstep, family rooms keep everyone together, and the van-and-speedboat transfer runs PHP 1,500 each way - write it into the ledger with open eyes. I would start at the island's own page.
A Slow Day, Delegated to the Children
Every family ledger needs a cheap, happy day, and Coron supplies two. The first is Coron Natural Farms, a working smallholding of orchards, vegetable beds, bio-composting and aqua farming that ends in a long lunch - my companion calls it the best-value classroom on the island. The second is the double-decker party boat, which docks straight at the swimming spots so nobody orchestrates small people in and out of tenders; there is a waterslide, room for twenty, and a shaded lower deck for the tired. If the ledger allows one indulgence, the private yacht lets you pick your stops from a ten-stop menu and set your own pace. And if a kitchenette would help, Coron's apartments and hotels list family rooms in one place.

Villa Khadine Grand Vista Resort
3 stars8.2 Very Good136 reviewsVilla Khadine Grand Vista Resort - family rooms with a kitchenette and a dining table, which quietly changes the arithmetic of a rest day. The restaurant cooks local cuisine for lunch and dinner, the garden absorbs restless little legs, and parking is free if you hire a car. Read what other families say before you fix the dates.
Reading the Season, Balancing the Book
Timing is the whole game here. The dry season runs from late November to May - calm seas and the year's clearest water for the wrecks and lagoons. December to February is cooler and busy, so book beds early; March to May trades a little heat for the best visibility. The wet months soften prices and thin the crowds, though the Coast Guard can ground every boat in bad weather, so keep plans flexible. August belongs to the Kasadyaan Festival - street dancing, food fairs and a proper town fiesta building to the feast of San Agustin on the twenty-eighth; keep late afternoons free for it. May and October are the shoulder months my companion marks in blue. The family stays in Coron are gathered on one list.
Go Find Your Own Favourites
That is my pocket ledger for Coron - a handful of hours, each booked at its best time, each paid for exactly once. Take the early boats, ask the spotters, let the tide set the pace, and find your own favourites; there is room in the book for them. Prices and availability shift with the season, so confirm the details when you book - then go. Coron rewards anyone who arrives with patience.
