My Favourite Beds Near Samson and Goliath, Belfast
A warm, personal list of where to sleep near Belfast's Samson and Goliath cranes: waterfront, city-centre and airport-friendly stays.
Some cities hand you a landmark you can steer by, and Belfast's two great cranes are exactly that.
I spent a working life learning where to stand and which hour to arrive, and I still plan every trip that way. Here is my little book of beds, grouped by the kind of days they suit, with a ledger-keeper's eye on where the money is best spent.
Two Yellow Giants
Samson and Goliath are the twin Harland & Wolff gantry cranes, and they dominate the skyline to the east. They are not open to visitors, which suits me fine.
A landmark you can only look at is a gift to anyone keeping a budget, because the best seat in the house costs nothing.
The question visitors always asked me at the gate was 'where do I stand to take it all in?' My answer in Belfast is the Maritime Mile, every time.
The Maritime Mile, for Free
I start at the Big Fish on Donegall Quay, cross the Lagan Weir footbridge, pass The O2 and Titanic Belfast, and finish at the slipways. The slipways, plaza and paths are open public space.

Native Coffee - a coffee kiosk on Queen's Quay, a lovely excuse to slow down!
Titanic Distillers - tours inside the old Thompson Dock Pump House, a dram of shipyard history.
HMS Caroline - guided tours run Friday to Sunday, so plan around them.
Waterfront Mornings
If the river is what you came for, sleep beside it. I'd take the first hour of the day over any other, whatever the place.
Lady of the Lagan - a boat trip round the docks where Titanic was built, from the pontoon behind the AC Marriott, spring to autumn.
Lagan Adventures hydrobikes - pedal the river from Belfast Waterfront, with booking essential!

Ac Hotel By Marriott Belfast
4 stars8.9 Fabulous2735 reviewsAc Hotel By Marriott Belfast - within walking distance of Titanic Belfast and The O2, with a terrace over the River Lagan; stay here for the cranes and the river, and trade the pub lanes for quiet quays (where to stay on the Belfast waterfront). My favourite base for this walk!
Titanic Belfast, Booked Wisely
Entry is by timed 10-minute slot, and booking online gets the best price and a secure time. Allow 2-3 hours for the galleries, plus 30-60 minutes for SS Nomadic, which your ticket includes.

I'd take the first slot or the last hour, the quieter times. Without a ticket you can still enjoy the atrium, café, shop and slipways. The one-hour outdoor Discovery Tour is an extra.
Cathedral Quarter Evenings
If your evenings matter as much as your mornings, sleep among the pubs and walk down to the water by day.
The Dirty Onion - music every night in the city's oldest building, so worth it!
Duke of York - a vast Irish whiskey list, with live music Thursday to Sunday.
Neighbourhood Café - specialty coffee on Donegall Street.
Bakarí - sourdough and pastries that earn a detour.
St George's Market - free entry, Friday to Sunday, and my favourite breakfast stop.

Ramada By Wyndham Belfast
3 stars8.4 Very Good4062 reviewsRamada By Wyndham Belfast - in the Cathedral Quarter with Titanic Belfast a short walk away and the City airport about 5 km off; stay here for the nightlife and trade a few minutes' walk to the quays ->. A sensible, central bed with an all-day bar!

Arena Nights Near the Quays
The SSE Arena at 2 Queens Quay became The O2 Belfast on 1 July 2026. Cody Johnson plays on 4 November 2026 and Niall Horan's Dinner Party Live On Tour follows on 15 November.

Friendship Four ice hockey is on 27 and 28 November, and the Belfast Giants play September to April. The Waterfront Hall hosts Morgan Jay on 30 March 2027. Hotels fill on big event weekends, so book early.

Easyhotel Belfast
3 stars8.0 Very Good2571 reviewsEasyhotel Belfast - a 10-minute walk from the Waterfront Hall and 1.5 km from the arena, with Titanic Belfast 2.6 km away; stay here for a lean ledger and trade a restaurant and bar for easy walking (Booking.com ↗). Plain, honest and handy for gig nights!
Around City Hall
City Hall to Titanic Belfast is about 20-25 minutes on foot, so this is a fine base if you want both. Tours last 45-50 minutes, with tickets at reception on the day by card only.
Crown Liquor Saloon - a Victorian gin palace, and a joy for a quick look inside.
Ulster Hall - Troy Hawke on 4 June 2027.
Limelight - MC Hammersmith on 3 June 2027.
The City Hall Christmas Market opens mid-November, and the lights go on Saturday 14 November 2026.

Leonardo Hotel Belfast
4 stars8.2 Very Good12773 reviewsLeonardo Hotel Belfast - beside City Hall and the Opera House, with the City airport about 5 km away; stay here for shops and theatres within a 10-minute walk, and trade the river for a longer stroll to the cranes (Tripadvisor ↗). A tidy city base with a buffet breakfast!
The Airport Question
George Best City Airport is about 5 km from the centre, and the Airport Express 600 reaches Grand Central Station in roughly 10-15 minutes. Belfast International is about 21 km out, and the 300 coach runs round the clock, taking 30-45 minutes.
Here is a ledger tip: the Belfast Visitor Pass covers the 600 but not the 300. Visa-exempt visitors also need the £20 UK ETA before flying.

Oyo Rayanne House Guest Accommodation
3 stars9.0 Superb137 reviewsOyo Rayanne House Guest Accommodation - in Holywood, 3 km from George Best City Airport and 8 km from Titanic Belfast; stay here for an early flight and a hire car with free parking, and trade the Maritime Mile on foot for a garden and lounge (Google Travel ↗). Quiet and sensible!
A Day Away
The Giant's Causeway lies about 100 km north. The National Trust advises pre-booking, and early morning and late afternoon are quietest; the stones are slippery when wet.
Carrick-a-Rede needs pre-booking for everyone, and the Game of Thrones Studio Tour is about 30 minutes from Belfast. Coach tours leave from the Europa Hotel.
For stays further afield, there are hotels and apartments across Northern Ireland.
Wander On
My ranger-station habit is to ask someone local, so try the Visit Belfast Welcome Centre opposite City Hall. Ask which Titanic slots are quietest and whether HMS Caroline is on a tour day.
Then browse Belfast hotels and apartments, choose your base and wander. Prices and availability can change, so confirm when booking.
I hope you find a few favourites of your own.
