With the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) rule on small UAS finally effective, the second annual Commercial UAV Expo showed growth in attendance and product innovation. Exhibitors spoke about increased demand since the rule was finalized and attendees showed a yearning for more information about what drones can bring to their business.
Commercial UAV Expo 2016 opened up with six keynote speakers who covered a variety of perspectives with relation to the commercial drone market. The expo included additional tracks on surveying and mapping, inspection, agriculture, infrastructure, emergency response and market forecasts.
Managing Editor Valerie King had the chance to test out the latest version of Epson googles that, when connected to a drone system, allow the operator to see the world from the drone’s perspective.
Intel brought its recently-released Falcon 8+ commercial UAV system to the show. The new system can provide detailed images down to millimeter accuracy.
Perkins Coie LLP, a Seattle-based legal firm that specializes in the laws surrounding drone technology, offered up a fun stop for attendees with its giant Jenga game.
This cool robot was assembled by a STEM student, high school aged or younger. It was on display at the Nevada Business Aviation Association booth. The association helps give school aged students the opportunity to learn to use drone technology for things like 3D modeling.
Another fun stop: the photo booth! Attendees took advantage of the assortment of head gear and other silly props and snapped a set of good-humored photos between sessions.
Riegl unveiled a brand new miniaturized LiDAR sensor for unmanned laser scanning at Commercial UAV Expo. The miniVUX-1UAV is capable of acquiring survey-grade measurement data.
Valerie King at it again with the VR goggles, this time at the Ludvig Emgard booth, checking out a 3D model of a city center that started with a drone collecting data by way of multispectral sensors.
The lively exhibit floor featured 120 exhibitors from at least 14 countries showcasing everything from drones to sensors to data collection services.
