My own short list of Belfast hotels near the Harland and Wolff cranes - chosen for value, free extras and an easy crossing to Titanic Quarter.

Airport Hotels Near Harland and Wolff Cranes, Belfast: My Picks
Belfast's Samson and Goliath have watched over the Lagan longer than any guidebook I own, and every time I pass beneath them I think of the patrols I used to run at dawn, totting up what the day had cost before it had properly started. This is my own short list of Belfast hotels within sight - or at least within easy reach - of those two great cranes, chosen as much for what they leave in your pocket as for what they put in your room. No ranking, just the places I'd happily send an old travelling companion to book.

Totting Up Before I Book

Years of signing off patrol expenses taught me to check the free extras before the star rating - parking, breakfast and WiFi add up faster than any one-night rate. I run the same sums now before I book a Belfast base, and every hotel below earns its place for value as much as location.

City Centre, Full Ledger

These four sit right in the thick of Belfast's centre, a short crossing from the cranes themselves, and each folds something useful into the room rate rather than charging extra for it.

    Europa Hotel

    4 stars
    8.9 Fabulous2965 reviews
Europa Hotel - in the heart of the city centre, a short drive from the cranes over in Titanic Quarter, and still the grand dame of the Golden Mile; the breakfast is generous enough that I'd happily skip lunch and call it a fair trade for the room rate. Check its own site for current offers.

    Malmaison Belfast

    4 stars
    8.1 Very Good2755 reviews
Malmaison Belfast - slap in the city centre, a short hop from the cranes across the Lagan, and the sort of boutique warehouse conversion I'd book once a trip to feel like the ledger allowed one indulgence. See its own listing.

    Leonardo Hotel Belfast

    4 stars
    8.2 Very Good12833 reviews
Leonardo Hotel Belfast - roughly 4.8 km from the cranes, judging by its distance from George Best City Airport, and close enough to City Hall that the included breakfast covers most of a day's sightseeing fuel. Compare its rates here.

Doubletree By Hilton Belfast City Ten Square

    4 stars
    8.9 Fabulous5697 reviews
Doubletree By Hilton Belfast City Ten Square - roughly a 13-minute drive from the cranes, by its own airport timing, overlooking City Hall with a rooftop bar that's worth one evening even on a careful budget. Book this riverside stay ahead of a weekend trip.

Closer to the Quarter

This group edges nearer the Titanic Quarter itself, within walking distance or a short hop of the cranes, and each keeps at least one daily cost - WiFi, coffee, parking - bundled in.

Find Your Own Favourite Berth

Wander this list the way I'd wander a reserve at dawn - without fixed plans, open to whichever one suits the day's budget and mood. My own soft spot stays with the Ivanhoe, free parking and all, but Belfast's cranes are close enough from every address here that you really can't go far wrong. Go and find your own favourite.
