The Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) has initiated a process to develop a strategic plan for the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI).

The committee plans to work with partners and stakeholders in the geospatial community to develop goals and objectives for the sustainable development of the NSDI. FGDC will provide multiple opportunities for input and involvement in the development of the plan, including public meetings of the FGDC Coordination Group, FGDC Steering Committee, National Geospatial Advisory Committee, and special sessions at conferences.

The group will define the role of the federal government to further the development of the NSDI and identify four or five goals for the federal government to pursue in the next three years.

Executive sponsors of the group are: Anne Castle (DOI, FGDC chair), Lisa Schlosser (OMB, FGDC vice chair), Dan Cotter (DHS), Ivan DeLoatch (FGDC executive director). Core team members are: John Mahoney (FGDC), Ken Shaffer (FGDC), Jerry Johnston (DOI rep), Steve Lewis (DOT rep), Tony LaVoi (DOC rep), Lew Summers (DHS/coordination group vice chair) and Tricia Gibbons (facilitator, lead alliance).
