One of the surveying profession’s most knowledgeable suppliers has been elected to the Board of Directors of MAPPS, the association of private sector geospatial firms.

MAPPS Board of Directors Member George Southard

George Southard

Elected by his fellow associate members earlier this month, Trimble Navigation Limited consultant George Southard is the first to hold a newly-created special seat on the MAPPS Board of Directors. At the Winter Conference in January, MAPPS membership approved a change to the association’s bylaws to create a non-voting, ex officio board seat, to be elected by and from associate member firms. An active participant in MAPPS since 1993, Southard has served on the Membership, Aerial Acquisition and Program committees, been chair of the Associate Members Committee and, most recently, served as chair of the UAS Sub-committee to the Aerial Acquisition Forum. He has also been on the Nominations Committee for several MAPPS Board of Directors elections, and was the MAPPS representative to the ASPRS Frank Moffitt Memorial Scholarship Committee. “George is a recognized leader in our profession,” said MAPPS President Jeff Lower, of Precision Aerial Reconnaissance (PAR), LLC, “and will bring a valued and respected voice to MAPPS and our board.”
