Marked by full and lively conference sessions and a busy exhibit hall, this month’s SPAR Europe and European LiDAR Mapping Forum were the largest in the five-year history of the co-held events. Held Dec. 8-10 at the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam, the events had 621 verified attendees — a 15-percent increase over 2013.

“We heard nothing but positive comments from attendees and exhibitors,” said event director Lisa Murray. “Attendees praised the conference content, our expert presenters, the networking opportunities and the opportunity to see the latest technologies and tools available for data capture, processing and delivery/visualization. The more than 40 exhibitors commented on the excellent quality and quantity of attendees who represented leading organizations from throughout Europe and beyond.”

Jacob Stroet of Germany’s Hansa Luftbild said he especially enjoyed that the events “brought together the newest technologies, scientists, vendors, service providers, users and customers,” in one place. The exhibition, said Martin Laging of Keopsys in France, was “very focused with the right mix of products and services from small/medium/large enterprises.”

The nearly 90 presentations in the two-and-a-half-day, five-track conference program touched on advances in 3D technologies, including new options for capture, processing, visualization and deliverables, as well as new developments on the horizon.

SPAR Europe is a conference and exhibition focused on end-to-end business and technology considerations for 3D measurement and imaging for industrial facilities, including building, architecture and construction. European LiDAR Mapping Forum is a technical conference and exhibition focused on data acquisition, fusion, processing and point clouds for airborne, terrestrial and underwater LiDAR used to support transport, urban modeling, coastal zone mapping and utility asset management.

Organizers are exploring venue options for 2015 and will announce exact dates in January.
