Madison, Wis. - Berntsen International released
the InfraMarker RFID system for marking underground assets. Using a combination
of magnetic location and on-site data storage, the system allows utilities to
find underground assets faster, saving both time and money.
Finding and identifying underground assets has
long been a challenge for public and private utilities. Mistakes and accidental
hits can be both costly and dangerous. Using Berntsen’s InfraMarker RFID
system, utilities can locate and positively identify assets in the field
quickly. With data stored both on a software database and on the asset itself,
positive identification of underground assets is faster than ever.
InfraMarker uses a patent-pending three step
process: GPS to get close to the asset, magnetic locators to pinpoint the
location and an RFID data signal to positively identify the asset. Various data
sets can be stored directly on the asset for identification and maintenance.
The magnetic signal offers a fail-safe signal that will last indefinitely. (Read more about this technology in the article"Underground Intel"by Christine Grahl.)
The InfraMarker RFID system includes InfraMarker
software, Trimble ThingMagic for issuing tags, Schonstedt locator for locating
the magnetic signal, an RFID reader to read the tag data and a variety of tag
