The NGS Real Time GNSS Network Symposium scheduled to be
held in Memphis, Tenn., on July 16-17, 2012, has been canceled, despite
a high level of interest. A statement issued by the agency noted that the
cancellation was due to a government-wide memo issued by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) in response to
Congressional directives that put all conference procurements on hold following
the widely publicized GSA conference abuses. The memo promised new guidance for
conference procurement and travel, which had not yet arrived. “We have passed
the point where the conference hotel could hold our rooms and facilities in
anticipation of a contract,” the statement said.
NGS said it
hopes to be able to reschedule the event for the fall in Memphis.
