MAPPS will
hold an interest meeting of private sector firms Sep. 12 in Florida to discuss
the formation of a state chapter. The meeting will be held at the offices
of RIEGL USA in Orlando. Attendees will hear what is important
to MAPPS members and private sector firms in Florida.
MAPPS has
successfully launched state chapters in Pennsylvania, Colorado, Georgia and
Maryland. This has given the private geospatial community and MAPPS member
firms a stronger voice in their respective states.
MAPPS announced that two guest speakers will speak at the event: Gene
Schiller, Emeritus official of the Southwest Florida Water Management District
(SWFWMD), former deputy executive director and a member of the National
Geospatial Advisory Committee (NGAC), and Dr. Steve Dicks, Information
Technology Bureau chief and former GIO of SWFWMD. They will discuss the
status of water management districts, state funding, and the impact on
contracting programs for mapping and geospatial data services.
