Traditional boundary, cadastral and topographic survey markets remained challenging in 2011, according to POB’s annual Salary & Benefits Study. Bucking a gradual downward trend in reported salaries were several high-tech areas, including building information modeling (BIM), historical documentation surveys, industrial plant optimization surveys, laser scanning/imaging, and accident investigation/forensics. Benefits remained fairly steady last year, with education as a notable exception--firms appear to be investing more heavily in the knowledge base of their workforce.

Conducted by BNP Media’s Market Research department, the 2012 study reveals a number of key trends in surveying and mapping and provides insights on how firms and individuals are dealing with changing markets and converging technologies.
