I have a digital level from Sokkia but sometimes the long rods are difficult to carry into rugged country. When we are doing a topo project our crews are required to close their traverse via loop and redundunt loops if possible. Then we use our single & dual frequency gps to occupy as much of the control points that are in the open. Usually the elevations from a total station reading and gps are off by 3 cm or less and the largest is less than 10 cm...
