A/E Firms Remain Committed to IT Spending Despite Recent Downturn
WAYLAND, MA- Spending on information technology per employee by architecture, engineering (A/E), and environmental consulting firms declined in 2009 from a ten-year high, according to ZweigWhite's 2010 Information Technology Survey of A/E/P & Environmental Consulting Firms. This is a not big surprise, considering the economic challenges the A/E industry has faced in recent years. However, the report also finds that A/E firms not only continue to budget for information technology, but they also expect IT spending levels to remain constant in 2010.
"Technology investment is quickly becoming a cost of entry into the A/E marketplace, rather than a competitive advantage," says John Soter, Principal, ZweigWhite Strategic Advisory Services, who provides an in-depth foreword to the 2010 Information Technology Survey. "The current challenge is to define the core work flow processes and integrate the technology to support those processes."
ZweigWhite's Information Technology Survey of A/E/P & Environmental Consulting Firms is a comprehensive survey devoted entirely to technology and its role in the design industry. The 2010 survey answers such questions as how much to invest in information technology, and how many IT staff are necessary for a firm, based on its size. Covering everything from networks, operating systems, and various applications to IT management, training, and spending, this report catalogues how firms of different types, sizes, and locations can keep current in an ever-changing and fast-moving technology environment.
