LIVERMORE, Calif. – Topcon Positioning Systems (TPS) new ScanMaster version 1.5 software is designed to simplify laser scanner point collection and manipulation. ScanMaster software is used with Topcon’s GLS-1000 scanner, a compact and cable-free laser scanner that can be operated by one person.

“The latest version of ScanMaster improves the software operators’ experience,” said Scott Langbein, senior product manager. “They can manipulate larger data sets, faster. With its operator-friendly interface, the user can become more proficient and productive. Data can be easily manipulated so projects can be completed more quickly.”

Culling features have been added to the new version to provide the user with greater rendering control. The frustum culling feature is designed so that only visible point clouds sections will render. An optional occlusion culling feature will render point cloud sections that are partially visible or fully obscured at lower resolution or not at all.

Another added feature is Smart Resolution which will automatically render point cloud sections at display resolution providing “an ideal balance between quality and performance,” Langbein said.

ScanMaster version 1.5 features include:

-- Operator-friendly user interface;
-- WLAN connection to a local PC;
-- Live video scan window definition;
-- Increased resolution controls;
-- Multiple scan tasks defined at one time;
-- Image capture and live video feed;
-- Creation of mesh objects and annotations;
-- Optional occlusion culling feature for rendering partially or fully obstructed point clouds;
-- Frustum culling so point cloud sections that are not visible will no longer render;
-- Smart Resolution so each point cloud section will automatically render at computer-display resolution;
-- Contrast and gamma controls for optimizing data display quality; and
-- Added support for TopSURV software linework control codes.

Langbein said, “ScanMaster has been optimized to quickly acquire and manipulate 3D point cloud data. With live video scan window definition, setting up an overhead, or an all-around scan becomes easy. Stream live video to setup the desired scan area while the scanner is tilted using the GLS-1000 tilt stand and obtain the 3D point cloud data you need.”

Topcon Positioning Systems, Inc. (TPS) designs and manufactures precise positioning products and solutions for the global surveying, construction, agriculture, civil engineering, mapping and GIS, asset management and mobile control markets. TPS’ parent company, Topcon Corporation (Tokyo Stock Exchange – 7732), was founded in 1932.
