Elmwood Park, New Jersey – Langan Engineering & Environmental Services employs an astounding number of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professionals (LEED APs) – 121. As a member of the United States Green Building Council, which governs the LEED program, Langan made a commitment to significantly grow the number of LEED APs in the firm by investing in training and encouraging employees to become accredited. The result: nearly 30 percent of Langan’s technical professionals are LEED APs.

With such a large number of in-house LEED APs, Langan is well positioned to partner with clients, architects, MEP firms, and contractors seeking LEED certification on new construction and major renovation projects. In fact, given Langan’s expertise in land development engineering and environmental services, as well as landscape architecture and planning, the firm can provide critical assistance in securing project LEED points in categories ranging from sustainable sites to water efficiency to indoor air quality to energy and atmosphere.

“Langan recognized that sustainability in general and LEED certification in particular are the way of the future, so we took steps to incorporate green thinking and green building into our culture and business practice,” said Michael Szura, LEED AP, ASLA, Director of Langan’s Landscape Architecture + Planning Group and head of the firm’s internal Green Team. “With well over 100 LEED APs, I am confident that no other consulting firm can match our integrated suite of services and comprehensive knowledge of LEED certification.”

Langan’s LEED APs can provide guidance to help achieve more than 40 LEED points, enough for LEED Gold certification. Areas where Langan can provide LEED guidance include site selection, Brownfield development, habitat protection and restoration, open space design, parking and transportation planning, stormwater management, heat island minimization, indoor air quality improvement, green roofs, low-irrigation, native landscapes, and other strategies to maximize a site’s environmental performance.

Specifically, with respect to onsite renewable energy, clients can utilize Langan’s core disciplines of geotechnical, site/civil, environmental engineering, as well as surveying and permitting services to develop green sources of energy, including biofuels, biomass, geothermal, solar, wind, and photovoltaic power.

“By selecting Langan, clients can realize what we call ‘the green of green’: the measurable financial value we provide our clients, coupled with the benefits of sustainable design through developing or renovating buildings that perform at the highest standards of energy and environmental sustainability,” said Szura.

About the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Program
LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system, providing third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.

Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED provides building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions.
