PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Oregon surveyors are celebrating National Surveyor's Week by cleaning up and improving the Willamette Stone State Heritage Site in the west hills of Portland.
The Willamette Stone was a small stone obelisk that marked the "initial point" of the Willamette Meridian. All land surveys and property descriptions in Oregon and Washington state are referenced to this point.
