By reading the news, resourceful job seekers learn about openings before they appear in classified advertisements. Hints about jobs appear in some of the Pocono Record's news stories.

In last week's "Shepherd's House's founders step aside," the need for a full-time house manager plus part-time staff was mentioned. The house manager position requires the specialized skills of a social worker.

Less overt and less immediate, the Feb. 4 article "East Stroudsburg needs $13M in sewer, water upgrades; hoping for $8M in grants" could pay off for those in the engineering field. At the end of the grant-requests-and-awards rainbow is the job creation pot of gold. It couldn't hurt to research grants and apply at companies and government agencies asking for big money.
