EL PASO -- A lifetime of perseverance and integrity was honored Friday when Criminal District Court No. 1 was ceremoniously dedicated in memory of Lt. Henry Ossian Flipper, the first African-American graduate of West Point and a noteworthy El Pasoan.
"The community can take pride that Henry Flipper passed through this community," artist and Flipper historian Bob Snead told the group gathered for the ceremony. "He made an impact on this community in ways we are still seeing and still feeling."
Flipper was a surveyor, interpreter and consultant, who surveyed much of the land in nearby northern Mexico. ...
