Kent,
With your background in botany, do you have a suggestion for a solution/chemical bath that efficiently removes lichen cover from rock? I am finishing a survey and need to "see" underneath a covering of lichen on a bearing rock to find the chiseled "X".
The rock is a quartz pegmatite and the scribing is on a near-vertical face. Between the hardness of the quartz and my experience that the surveyor was a "light" scriber. I'd like to use a chemical to remove the lichen instead of mechanical abrasion alone. Or would you suggest only using a brush to remove the lichen? If so, any source for a good brass brush?
Thanks,
Gene
