ESRI Helps Improve Public Transit Systems
ESRI, Redlands, Calif., joined the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) as a business member. ESRI is supplying GIS technology to the APTA to improve travel related operations and increase travel service in its communities. In addition, GIS is being used for assessing traffic congestion, traffic safety, air quality and for forecasting the results of transportation projects.
APTA, Washington, D.C., is a nonprofit international association with more than 1,300 public and private member organizations. These organizations include planning, design, construction and finance firms; academic institutions; transit associations; and state departments of transportation. APTA members serve more than 90 percent of the people who use public transportation in the United States and Canada.
