Sacramento, Calif. Police Use MetaVUE GIS
August 29, 2001
The Sacramento, Calif. Police Department Air Operations Unit installed MetaVUE in their police helicopters, integrating a detailed GIS with their on-board GPS system for pilots. With MetaVUE, officers can enter the address they are being dispatched to. Using the GPS, the helicopter’s current position and the location of the address are displayed on a computer. MetaVUE tells the pilot the direction to take to reach the address. MetaVUE can be used in police cars as well as helicopters, and provides a moving mode for surveillance and chases. The Columbus, Ohio and Houston, Texas police departments also utilize the MetaMAP system.
