ESRI, Redland, Calif., hosted the second annual U.S. Community Atlas Program. The nationwide challenge asked schools to prepare a set of maps and descriptions about their community. The winner of ESRI’s challenge, Stillwater Area High School in Minnesota, won a trip to ESRI’s Twenty-first Annual International User Conference in San Diego, Calif. Stillwater’s project will be presented as the “Model Project.”
The Community Atlas Program, sponsored by ESRI’s Schools and Libraries Program, helps students and teachers define their community through descriptive maps. Stillwater was the selected winner because the students created powerful maps combined with text to present issues of community sprawl in their area.
The awards ceremony will take place on July 9, 2001, at the Twenty-first Annual ESRI International User Conference in San Diego, Calif. For more information, visit www.esri.com/communityatlas.
