LIDAR helps meet energy demands.

Manitoba Hydro, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, selected TerraPoint, Woodlands, Texas, to provide LIDAR scanning laser technology to its subsidiary W.I.R.E. Services as part of its effort to help electric utilities meet energy demands. W.I.R.E. Services provides verification and re-rating services on transmission lines through the use of data produced with airborne LIDAR technology.

“LIDAR technology provides a fast, cost-effective method for collecting highly accurate data that allows utilities to make the best-informed decisions regarding upgrade and re-rating options,” said Jim Koop, W.I.R.E. Services general manager.

Manitoba Hydro is Canada’s fourth largest electric utility and an exporter of power to the United States.
