GS50 units will be used to help agriculture in Denmark and Germany.

Leica Geosystems, Atlanta, Ga., will supply GS50 GPS/GIS data collection systems for agricultural applications in Denmark and Germany. The Bavarian Ministry of State for Nutrition, Agriculture and Forestry has purchased 63 units, and the Danish Ministry of Agriculture has placed an order for 20 units.

The GS50 units will be used to measure the area of fallow and cultivated fields to verify conformity with European Union agriculture policies. Data is collected in the field, with location measurements enhanced by DGPS error-correction data transmissions. It is then edited in the office using Leica’s GIS DataPRO software.
