Early in the day, U.S. Rep. Roscoe Bartlett (R-MD) toured the building and expressed an interest in EarthData's rapid response capability that was called into action after the tragedy at the World Trade Center, tornado devastation in La Plata, Maryland, and, most recently, following Hurricane Isabel. Bartlett is pleased that the continued growth of the Frederick area includes yet another high-tech company calling the region home.
Attendees also viewed the company's two new exclusive technologies - ISTAR which when coupled with the ADS40 digital imaging system produces true orthophotos, and GeoSAR, which uses X- and P-band radar to show the earth beneath the clouds and foliage. GeoSAR demonstrations highlighted the technology's first two commercial projects for NIMA and NOAA. ISTAR demonstrations featured the company's work to pinpoint Hurricane Isabel damage and the first all-digital statewide mapping program of Nebraska. The event also featured EarthData's premier lidar floodplain mapping project for the State of North Carolina and three unique GIS applications, including a hurricane response system developed for Florida Power & Light.
The co-location of several EarthData offices under one roof will enable the organization to meet the increasing needs of Washington, DC-area federal government and international agency clients even more efficiently and precisely. With 28,000 square feet of production and meeting space, 100 TB of on-line storage, and massive parallel processing capacity, the EarthData team is uniquely positioned to meet the daily challenges to the industry as a whole to increase automation, streamline processes, and develop new technologies that deliver more detailed data faster. This capability enables EarthData to produce over 2,500 digital orthophoto and radar map tiles per week.
