Pliable display technology SDK 2.1.0 beta and PDT 3d SDK beta support the Mac OS X platform and PDT 3D application.

IDELIX Software Inc. released Version 2.1.0 beta of the Pliable Display Technology (PDT) Software Development Kit and the PDT 3d SDK beta featuring platform support for Mac OS X(R) and "PDT 3d", a new application of PDT that extends "detail-in-context" viewing functionality to three dimensional models.

Pliable Display Technology (PDT) is a visualization technology that is increasing productivity and improving usability by transforming the way people display and interact with high-density digital data sets and 3D models on PC's, the Internet and handheld/wireless applications. The PDT SDK features an open API that is easily integrated by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Systems Integrators within their leading applications.

In addition to support for major platforms such as the Windows desktop family, Windows CE, and Unix variants such as Linux and IRIX, the PDT SDK 2.1.0 beta features support documentation and tutorials for Mac OS X development. By supporting Mac OS X, IDELIX is expanding its technology reach to application developers of software for graphic artists, publishers and digital imaging professionals, whose end users can experience substantial productivity gains through the advanced "detail-in-context" viewing, collaboration, and editing capabilities of PDT.

The PDT 3d SDK beta builds on the PDT SDK and introduces new classes supporting PDT 3d lenses, a new application of Pliable Display Technology for viewing and interacting with three dimensional models and large complex assemblies on the local PC and the Internet. PDT 3d provides a means of viewing an area or object of interest within a 3D data set that is "occluded" or blocked from view by the objects visible in front of it. A PDT 3d lens can be positioned along any plane in the 3D data set. Objects in front or behind the lens plane are optimally displaced to provide a clear line of site to this area of interest that will appear within the focal region of the lens. Once the PDT lens is removed, these objects are returned to their original data coordinates, enabling the structure to return to its original format. PDT 3D provides an alternative to existing occlusion reduction tools such as rotation, cutting planes, transparency, or information filtering.

The PDT Software Development Kit supports OpenGL, but also includes the PDT Image Warper for hardware-independent rendering of images. The PDT SDK was written in ANSI C++, and is available to OEM's and System Integrators that are interested in integrating PDT as a customer solution within their leading applications.
