This new Canadian program aims to distill the commercial and operational opportunities/advances afforded by the new capabilities of the future RADARSAT-2 satellite.

"Making the scientifically possible operationally practical " reads the mission statement of the newly launched Science and Operational Applications Research for RADARSAT-2 (SOAR) program. A joint partnership between RADARSAT International (RSI), MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates (MDA), the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing (CCRS), SOAR aims to distill the commercial and operational opportunities/advances afforded by the new capabilities of the future RADARSAT-2 satellite.

The program is aimed at the private secgical mapping, maritime and terrestrial surveillance (illegal fishing, bilge dumping), disaster management and damage assessment.
