November 2002: Turning Points
Trimble, Sunnyvale, Calif., announced the death of Ed Down, Trimble’s regional sales manager for the Engineering and Construction Division. Down passed away on August 18, 2002, leaving his wife, Lucy, and two children, Sasha and Natalie. He had been with Trimble for more than 11 years working out of the Chicago, Illinois office. He will be remembered for his friendship, integrity, diplomacy, persistence and most importantly, for his wonderful sense of humor—a trait that he exhibited no matter the situation.
Spiller’s, Lewiston, Maine, now offers the latest Trimble surveying machine control systems and Spectra Precision Lasers in Lewiston, Maine and Woburn, Massachusetts. Spiller’s will also provide factory-authorized repair for all Trimble products.
Thales Navigation, Santa Clara, Calif., appointed Stig Pedersen director of GIS product marketing, reporting to Neil Vancans, general manager of the professional products strategic business unit. Pedersen is responsible for developing and launching all of Thales Navigation’s GIS products for the professional market. Pedersen spent the past eight years at Leica Geosystems, Atlanta, Ga., where he held a number of senior positions in both product management and business leadership.
The Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA) , Park Ridge, Ill., announced a new management structure at its headquarters office. URISA is now managed by senior management team Wendy Francis, Christine Dionne and Barbara Hirsch. Francis has been URISA’s director of marketing and member services since 1997 and will continue to be responsible for membership, vendor and outreach relationships. Dionne, URISA’s director of conferences, has 20 years of association management experience and has responsibility for URISA’s current and future educational programs and events. Hirsch, CPA, URISA’s director of finance, is responsible for all fiscal matters and office operations.
Eagle Point, Dubuque, Iowa, added Damon Seys, Tina Krugler, EIT, Sharon Westphalen, Phil Heikkila, Carrie Lohrmann, EIT and Lisa Bowers to its technical staff. In addition, the company has hired Laura Howard as its corporate training manager and has added Norm Skinner, Jeff Krueger, and Dan Woodruff as regional strategic account representatives.
