Marine sanctuary now using model as teaching tool.
Solid Terrain Modeling (STM), manufacturer of the world's most accurate 3D solid terrain models, has produced a 36" x 48" model of the Channel Islands and surrounding waters. This project was commissioned by the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Channel Islands Marine Sanctuary for use both as a display for its many outreach events and as an educational tool at its teacher workshops.
"The Channel Islands Marine Sanctuary has scheduled many outreach events. We are showcasing the STM model at several of these events, as well as at adult education and public meetings," said Julie Bursek, education coordinator for the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary. "We've already used it for our JASON XIV live expedition open houses. The model has become a dynamic teaching tool at Sanctuary-sponsored events," she added.
