C-Map Systems Inc. has released WriteGPS, an intelligent GPS video overlay and typewriter. The self-contained, 12-volt, palm-sized unit overlays video with GPS time, date, position coordinates, altitude, depth and heading. WriteGPS accepts a standard PS2 (PC) keyboard to function as a video typewriter.
A unique feature of this unit is the sophisticated coordinate conversion engine that transforms GPS output (typically latitude/longitude only) to useable map grid coordinates. The unit's supported grids include all NAD27 or NAD83 zones of the U.S. State Plane Coordinate System and UTM coordinates. Earth model transformations (from WGS84) are available for common datums.
WriteGPS accepts NMEA serial output available from most GPS receivers. It is perfect for underwater video, law enforcement, infra-tructure surveys and video surveillance. PAL and NTSC models are available.
