DigitalGlobe, provider of high resolution commercial satellite imagery and geospatial information products, announced Dr. Walter Scott, founder and CTO, received the 2004 Colorado Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the emerging technology category. The award was presented during an evening celebration at the Denver Performing Arts Center on June 24, 2004.
The Entrepreneur of the Year award was created by Ernst & Young to recognize outstanding individuals on a regional, national and ultimately global level. Awards are given to entrepreneurs who have demonstrated excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance, and personal commitment to their businesses and communities. An independent judging panel consisting of community and business leaders selects the winners.
In 1992, Dr. Walter Scott founded DigitalGlobe (then WorldView Imaging) where he served as chairman of the board and CTO until 1995. Under Dr. Scott's guidance, DigitalGlobe was the first company ever to receive a high-resolution commercial remote sensing license from the U.S. government. With the launch of its QuickBird satellite, DigitalGlobe became the world's highest resolution commercial satellite imagery provider. Dr. Scott is now program manager for DigitalGlobe's next-generation WorldView system. Set to launch no later than 2006, WorldView will exceed the performance of QuickBird, with a 0.5-meter spatial resolution and greater collection capabilities.

Winners in several national categories, as well as the overall national Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year, will be announced at the annual awards gala in Palm Springs, Calif., in November 2004. The overall national Entrepreneur of the Year award winner is then considered for the world event held in Monte Carlo.
