AMC Inc. released GPS2CAD Version 3.5, which enables design professionals to use recreational-grade GPS units to collect field information and plot it in a CAD program. The program also plots the points on aerial photos and topographic maps that are recovered online. Version 3.5 works with both Garmin and Magellan GPS receivers, and AutoCAD versions 14.01 through 2005. The program is designed to bridge the gap between GPS and CAD when high precision measurement is not necessary. Points are translated from latitude/longitude to more than 40 worldwide datums, including NAD 27, NAD 83 and the State Plane Coordinates system. Free evaluation copies of the program are available at (AMC, Phoenix, Ariz.)
