Home » California Purchases SPOT Statewide Image Map
The California Mapping and Coordinating Committee, Reston, Va., purchased a statewide digital image map created from current SPOT satellite imagery. It is the most up-to-date, consistent quality California statewide coverage that has ever been produced. The image map is broadly licensed for use by all state and local government agencies for planning and mapping activities. The California database is created from 1999 and 2000 SPOT satellite imagery with 10 meter resolution. It has been processed to a high degree of map accuracy, and formatted for easy use in desktop mapping and geographic information systems (GIS). The imagery is currently licensed for use by any state, county and local government agency, and by all California state schools, including universities.
In the early 1990s, a conglomerate of state and federal agencies purchased CA statewide coverage from SPOT. When used with the newer, more recent digital image map, users can quickly and easily identify and map natural and man-made changes that have occurred anywhere in the state.
