Trimble Navigation Ltd. (Sunnyvale, Calif.), which recently acquired Spectra Precision, a leading provider of optical surveying instruments and related software, announced it has aligned its resources to focus on four strategic growth markets: engineering and construction (including surveying), agriculture, fleet and asset management, and component technologies.
"Trimble's strategy is to focus on markets that can provide us a leadership role, growth and profitability," said Steven W. Berglund, Trimble's president and chief executive officer. "Our acquisition of Spectra Precision is one step in the process to achieve these goals. The combined company creates an opportunity to leverage synergies in two of our four targeted areas-the construction and agriculture markets."
Karl G. Ramstrom, former president of Spectra Precision, has been appointed senior vice president and general manager of the Engineering and Construction division. This division will include the surveying, infrastructure, machine control and construction instruments businesses. The new organization blends elements of Trimble's Precision Positioning Group and the Spectra Precision Group, to offer a wider range of positioning solutions in the market place.
