Autodesk’s Civil 3D 2020.1 includes Autodesk Connector, new functionality that allows the user to directly connect to GIS data in Esri’s ArcGIS Online.  The latest version also features improvements in design, performance and collaboration efficiencies, enhancing BIM design workflows for larger, more complex infrastructure projects.

The Connector for ArcGIS integrates BIM and GIS by enabling users to bring ArcGIS data layers that contain points, lines, polygons, feature lines, gravity pipes, parcels, or structures directly into Civil 3D drawings.  For each layer, the type of Civil 3D object is specified, which helps to efficiently generate the existing conditions in an area of interest.

After bringing GIS data from ArcGIS directly into a Civil 3D drawing, the data can be edited in Civil 3D and updated at the source ArcGIS file.  Because the Connector for ArcGIS maintains a live link to ArcGIS Online, consistency is maintained between what is being designed and what is in the GIS.
