FAA Remote Identification for Drones Expected in July
Reports Indicate July Ruling on UAV Remote Identification
Jay Merkle, executive director of the Federal Aviation Administration’s UAS Integration Office, commented before Congress the FAA plans to release its remote identification ruling for UAS in July.
Under the rules, a unique identifier broadcast by the UAV would allow the FAA, law enforcement, and pubic officials to identify the operator of a particular UAV, based on the registration information associated with the aircraft.
Avionics International reported Merkle commented in a Senate Commerce Committee hearing, “We are working currently to ensure that we keep the policy component along with standards and remote ID infrastructure all developed and harmonized.”
