In January, China completed its third space launch within five days when a Long March 2D rocket carried the LKW-3 remote sensing satellite into space. The launch took place January 13, 2018 at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in the Gobi Desert.

The LKW-3 satellite is the third land survey satellite put into a Sun-synchronous orbit.

Just prior to this launch, GB Times reports, a pair of SuperView-1 (Gaojing-1) optical Earth observation satellites were launched from Taiyuan, and a dual Beidou-3 GNSS satellite launch from Xichang.

China launched the LKW-1 and LKW-2 in December.
