Company Spotlight: Schonstedt Instrument Company
Maggie Goes to Work in the World’s Harshest Conditions
In 2015, Schonstedt introduced “Maggie,” the latest addition to their line of magnetic locators. In late 2016, an updated version of this popular pistol-grip locator was released, and awarded an IP54 rating, making it more water and dust-resistant. Maggie was engineered to achieve all the accuracy of Schonstedt’s legendary 52Cx, with the single-handed operation of the 92XT model.
Founded in 1953 by Erick O. Schonstedt, Schonstedt Instrument Company was initially a subcontractor to the aerospace industry, providing high-grade magnetometers for aerospace and laboratory applications. The firm began making magnetic locators for land surveyors in the 1970s, and the distinctive “yellow stick” soon became the global standard for survey monument location. In fact, in the survey industry, “Schonstedt” or “Schonny” is the de facto term for magnetic locators.
