Topcon Positioning Group has won the Wichmann Innovations Award in the competition’s hardware category. The company accepted the award for the Topcon Falcon 8 rotary-wing UAS.

The Wichmann Award is bestowed annually at the Intergeo trade show in Germany. The Falcon 8 was judged the winner based on the criteria of innovation, user-friendliness and practicality.

“The Falcon 8 offers the flexibility to maneuver in small spaces and can cope with challenging environments often presented in inspection and monitoring,” says Ian Stilgoe, vice president portfolio management at Topcon Positioning Group. “Thanks to the participants who voted for the UAS and recognized its precision, reliability and user-friendliness.”

Designed for inspection and monitoring, as well as survey and mapping applications, the Falcon 8 features AscTecTrinity technology, an autopilot safety feature that provides three levels of redundancy for protection against performance drop or loss of control. Three IMUs synchronize all sensing data and identify, signal and compensate when needed.

This is the fifth year the Wichmann Innovations Award has been bestowed.
