Maptek Hires New N. America Principal Engineer
Shoemaker will be tasked with leading consulting engagements and sales support
Maptek has hired Sam Shoemaker as a principal engineer at the Maptek North American office. He will be involved with further developing resource estimation and long-range strategic mine planning capabilities.
“I’m very excited to join the team at Maptek,” Shoemaker says. “As a longtime Maptek customer, it is a privilege and pleasure to be able to contribute to Maptek’s success after so many years of benefiting from their technology.”
Shoemaker comes to Maptek with more than 30 years of mining engineering experience, delivering detailed open-pit mine planning and mine design projects for iron, copper and gold operations.
Most recently Shoemaker was responsible for establishing the Salt Lake City office of Barr Engineering, where he served as a senior mining consultant, leading pre-feasibility and feasibility studies on various projects including rare earths, gold and iron operations.
Prior to joining Barr, Shoemaker held several senior engineering and management positions. He served as the chief mine engineer/nine planner for Cleveland-Cliffs, where he oversaw mine engineering and long-range planning activities at all six Cleveland-Cliffs mining operations in North America.
“We are thrilled to have Sam join our team here at Maptek,” says Rob Hardman, general manager of Maptek North America. “Sam brings a level of proven, real-world expertise that’s unmatched in our industry. His leadership and experience will be an asset to our customers in North America and elsewhere, and to our entire company.”
Shoemaker will focus on leading consulting engagements and supporting Maptek Vulcan and Evolution sales for the North American region. He will also play a lead role in mentoring and developing Maptek staff, as well as identifying areas to expand the Maptek product portfolio and support customers.
