Surveying with GPS
This presentation is as complete a description of surveying with GPS as one can produce in the time limits of a one-day seminar. GIS receivers will be discussed briefly, but not GIS processing. The technology of state High Accuracy Reference Networks (HARNs) and Continuous Operating Reference Stations (CORS) will be described. The method of establishing 'GPS Derived Orthometric Heights' will be covered in detail. A description of the Russian GLONASS system and the new European GALILEO system will conclude the seminar.
About the Program:
Auburn University’s Engineering Professional Development Distance Learning Series gives engineers and other licensed professionals an affordable and convenient way to earn continuing education credits (CEUs). The flexible format can be adapted for either individual or organizational use.
CEUs, PDHs, CPCs, LUs
- CEU -Continuing Education Unit
- PDH -Professional Development Hour
- CPC -Continuing Professional Competency
- LU -Learning Units
These are measures of time and/or effort expended in coursework. Typically, states require either PDHs or CPCs-one PDH, CPC or LUs one contact hour of instruction. A contact hour is usually considered to be an hour spent in a classroom situation or seminar. (We list the contact hours of each course.) CEUSs are normally issued by educational institutions, and are one-tenth for a contact hour-or .3 for a 3-hour seminar. So for one of our three-hour courses, we issue a certificate that grants .3 CEUs (point-3), which is convertible to 3 PDHs. 1 Contact Hour=.1 CEU=1 PDH=1 CPC =1 LU. For the courses, the CEU number is exactly one-tenth the number of contact hours—and is therefore convertible to PDHs CPCs or LUs. (However, in every state the responsibility for determining whether or not courses will be accepted by that state rests with the licensee. Auburn University maintains a permanent record of all CEUs granted.)
The registration fee for individual DVD/CD orders includes the course DVD-R/CD, workbook/handout, an examination covering the course content and objectives, and CEU processing costs. Only one CEU certificate will be issued per individual course order. Successful passing of an examination (70% for PE's and LS's and 80% for architects) is required before CEU certificates may be issued. During a period of up to 1 year from the original date of purchase, exams may be submitted. The course completion date on the certificate is based on the postmark on the envelope used to return the examination to Auburn for grading. When completing the exam online, the data of completion will be the data appearing on the exam submission email.
