Velodyne LiDAR, Inc., a leading manufacturer of high definition LiDAR sensors, announced the appointment of George Ross to the position of director of manufacturing. Ross will be responsible for controlling all operations including the supervision of the manufacturing, production scheduling, purchasing, cost control, efficiencies and quality control of the company.

All Velodyne LiDAR products are made in the U.S., and both the HDL-64E and HDL-32E sensors are designed, manufactured and packaged at the company’s headquarters in Morgan Hill. As an integral member of Velodyne’s management team, Ross is overseeing the design and deployment of a 3,100 square foot clean room along with doubling the manufacturing staff.

“George is a strong addition to Velodyne’s management team and his appointment speaks volumes to Velodyne’s commitment to manufacture the highest-quality sensors here in the U.S.,” said Bruce Hall, president of Velodyne. “George joins us a critical time as we are ramping up our production lines to meet strong demand for all our sensor products. The depth of George’s experience and leadership in guiding world-class, closely-audited manufacturing operations is a tremendous asset for Velodyne.”

With over 20 years of management experience, Ross has strong expertise in operational scale-up, quality control, tooling and fixtures, and materials flow for high-precision devices. He also has a track record for driving product refinement through customer feedback and sustained process refinement. Most recently Ross worked as director of manufacturing at St. Jude Medical. Prior to this, Ross held the title of director of manufacturing at SurgRx.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Velodyne team,” said Ross. “The recent development of the HDL-32E marks the latest milestone in Velodyne’s strategy to aggressively pursue the autonomous vehicle navigation and mapping markets. I look forward to continuing Velodyne’s advancement of innovative sensors and will bring a new emphasis on manufacturing improvement through sustained process development.”
