Limits of expert witness responsibilities

In the case of a land surveyor acting as an expert in regard to a law suit, what are his ethical, professional, and/or legal responsibilities for providing the opposition with a copy of his physical, and or electronic field notes?

Let's assume that the land surveyor is in California, has already provided the client with a plat showing his results, and there is no contractual clause addressing this in the contract with his client.

Thanks in advance,
