Land surveying company tries to ride out faltering economy

The survey crew always got a rise out of Mary Blake -- right up out of her chair -- when they brought in snakes or turtles and, that one time, a little white pig.

"It was all in good fun in the old days," said Blake, who once worked for a company where one of the crews members, David McMillen, first learned the ropes of the land surveying business.

The field crew just couldn't resist bringing the day's experiences back to the office to share with her, she said. "David was a crew member 24 or 25 years ago. They were awful to me, but it was all in good fun. "
