February 5, 2008
A land surveyor calls Chicago police to tell them he just found the frozen remains of a "badly decomposed" female.

Frozen Remains Found In Field Not Peterson, Stebic After much speculation surrounding the discovery of a "badly decomposed" body in a field on the Southwest Side Friday, police said Saturday that the remains are not those of missing women Stacy Peterson or Lisa Stebic.

The still-unidentified woman whose remains were found on the Southwest Side Friday was murdered, an autopsy determined Saturday.

The death was ruled a homicide from multiple stab and incised wounds, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. An approximate age of the woman was unavailable.

Chicago police continue to investigate after a suburban surveyor found frozen human remains in a field in the 3400 block of South Kedzie Avenue. About 1 p.m., a land surveyor from the City of Lyons discovered a “badly decomposed” body frozen to the ground about a 100 feet from the railroad tracks in the Kedzie Avenue field, police News Affairs Sgt. Eugene Mullins said.
