U.S. Geological Survey Hosts GIS Day Event

Presentations will include information on how GIS works.

The U.S. Geological Survey will observe National Geography Awareness Week, Nov. 11-17, 2001, by hosting a GIS Day event in Menlo Park, Calif., for students at elementary and high schools.

On Nov. 14, The USGS and the Bay Area Automated Mapping Association will sponsor a poster/map contest for all students in the bay area and a four-hour learning event from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the USGS mapping center in Menlo Park. The presentation will include information on how GIS works, tours of USGS facilities and a job fair for college students seeking GIS-related careers. The evening will close with awards for the best maps and posters as well as an ice-cream social.
