Laser-Scan Presents GML and Interoperability 08.26.2003

August 26, 2003
Laser-Scan's Chief Scientist Dr Paul Watson has been invited to speak at a prestigious conference exploring the role of interoperability on the path to a national geodatabase infrastructure.

Dr Watson is presenting a paper entitled "GML and interoperability" at the Intesa GIS conference in Siena, Italy on 4-5 September. He will examine recent advances in interoperability and GML (i.e. the OpenGIS and TC211 approaches to interoperability) and Laser-Scan's view of the problem. Dr Watson joins an impressive line up of speakers from high profile organisations, both academic and commercial.

Dr Watson comments:

"It is a great honour to be invited to take part in such an important event. There has been a tremendous amount of effort channeled into the standards arena and the fact that Laser-Scan is presenting alongside industry leading organisations shows the importance of the interoperability topic. I'm looking forward to some lively discussion and I hope that this event will help to pave the way for progress towards this common goal."

The Intesa GIS conference is sponsored by the Italian Government and is related to INSPIRE (Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Europe). INSPIRE is a recent initiative launched by the European Commission and developed in collaboration with Member States and accession countries. It aims at making available relevant, harmonised and quality geographic information to support formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Community policies with a territorial dimension or impact.
