Ordnance Survey Ireland and Leica Team Up 01.28.2002

January 28, 2002
Agreement signed for use of LH Systems geospatial data manager.

Ordnance Survey Ireland (OSi), Ireland's national mapping agency, signed the first purchase agreement for a GeoVault Data Manager from Leica Geosystems, Atlanta, Ga., for the archiving, management and distribution of imagery and associated geospatial data. OSi will use GeoVault to house and serve imagery and data used to create map series and to produce products such as orthophotos and digital terrain models more effectively.

LH Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leica Geosystems, developed GeoVault. The system will be delivered to OSi by Leica Geosystems in two phases – phase I immediately, and phase II in mid-March 2002.

OSi has approximately 15 Terabytes of images and data to be archived initially. Once the data is ingested, GeoVault will be used as an image server, which will manage the accessibility of OSi data for a wide range of applications including computer aided design (CAD) and geographic information systems (GIS).

GeoVault provides automated, cost-effective and secure long-term storage and management of digital imagery files and geospatial information in a work group, intranet, or Internet setting. Authorized OSi customers from all sectors of the economy, government and general public will be able to access images archived in the GeoVault.
