Thales Navigation Reinforces North America Survey And Mapping Sales Team With New Hires 03.07.2003

Thales Navigation announced that Darcy Shunk and LeRoy Sorenson have joined the professional strategic business unit as the Company's newest Regional Sales Managers (RSMs).

Shunk will have responsibility over survey and mapping for the U.S.A. West region, and Sorenson will drive sales and customer service in the U.S.A. Central region.

Darcy Shunk, U.S.A. West Regional Sales Manager Shunk joins Thales Navigation from Allen Precision Equipment where he managed the sales, support and marketing efforts of all GPS products, including those from Thales Navigation. During his time at Allen Precision Equipment, Shunk turned the GPS division into a company profit center and helped it to become the largest Topcon GPS distributor in the nation.

With several years of direct experience in the GPS market, Shunk brings a detailed technical knowledge of nearly all GPS survey solutions on the market today. As a technical specialist at Topcon/Javad, Shunk provided distributor support, helping to maintain a diverse network of distributors throughout the United States and Canada.

Shunk holds a B.A. in Business Administration from Nipissing University in North Bay, Ontario, Canada.

LeRoy Sorenson, U.S.A. Central Regional Sales Manager Sorenson brings more than twelve years of experience and success in the GPS market, with much of that time spent at Sokkia driving sales and product development programs.

Sorenson is based in Lenexa, Kansas, where he was most recently the GPS district manager for POINT, Inc. There he oversaw GPS dealer sales on the West Coast. As part of that role, Sorenson gathered extensive feedback from dealers and customers on GPS products in the market and in development, and established a new dealer network that was built on the traditional model of the survey dealer network, but which branched into specialty markets such as construction.

Sorenson served a decade at Sokkia in various technical, product marketing, and sales roles, culminating in his position as general manager of product planning and education. At Sokkia, Sorenson managed new product development for data collection systems and software, developed and executed training programs and materials, and created release packages, including all supporting sales materials, based on market requirements.

His depth of knowledge and perspective on the product development and launch process for the GPS market is an excellent addition to Thales Navigation's expertise and customer focus.

Sorenson studied pre-architecture at the University of Minnesota, as well as engineering and architectural drafting at Lake Area Vo-Tech.
