URISA has announced that the complete program for URISA's Second Caribbean GIS Conference is now available online at http://www.urisa.org/Caribbean/Program/caribbeanconf.htm. The conference will take place September 13 through 17, 2004 in Barbados.

There was an overwhelming response to the Call for Abstracts for this conference, with over 100 proposals submitted. The Conference Committee worked tirelessly to review the abstracts and develop educational sessions that address the important issues faced by Caribbean GIS professionals.

"The second URISA Caribbean GIS Conference offers a tremendous opportunity to build on the experience and networking of the first conference and to take advantage of the shared experience and expertise. This, therefore, is an opportunity to support the Caribbean moving beyond the peripheral application of geospatial technology to making it a strategic tool for managing the fragile resource base and increasing competitiveness in challenging business environments," commented Ian King, 2004 Conference Chair, Environmental Consultant/President, Geographic Information Services and Technologies (GIST) in Barbados.

Three pre-conference workshops will be presented: Introduction to GIS, Managing GIS Implementation, and Introduction to Digital Imagery & Remote Sensing. "Mobile GIS--Using Your Enterprise GIS in the Field" will be the topic of the keynote address presented by Alan Townsend of Trimble, and special plenary sessions on "The State of Caribbean GIS" and a Barbados GIS Summit will be conference highlights.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are filled with educational sessions on topics ranging from the Development of Spatial Data Infrastructures to Public Safety and Law Enforcement GIS.

An exhibition will allow Caribbean GIS professionals to explore technology options and learn about new products and services.

The first URISA Caribbean GIS Conference took place in Jamaica, during September 2001, and it was a tremendous success.
